Roan Mountain
With some amazing weather in the forecast, five of us hit the road early Saturday for Roan Mountain, which is just on the border of NC and TN. The actual peak of Roan sits just over 6200 feet, but we chose the trail at Carver's Gap, which encompasses the longest stretch of grassy balds in the
Appalachians. Roan also has the world's largest rhododendron gardens. They bloom sometime in June and are supposed to be an amazing sight. It's a great place to hike since, like Mt Rogers, the views all along the trail are great. AND there was snow. :) We ended the day with dinner and coffee in Boone. Fabulous day!
